An exceedingly rare “twist” lies in this opulent carbine by Parisian gunmaker Nicolas-Nöel Boutet. The carbine comes lavished with the type of embellishment one comes to expect from Boutet: engraving, gold inlay, silver furniture, handsome wood and a superbly carved stock.
However, this presentation-level piece gets its true rarity as a “turnover carbine.” Also referred to as a “swivel breech,” the superposed barrels, and their corresponding actions, will rotate allowing the user a rapid second shot. A marvelous engineering feat from the makers at the Versailles Manufactory.
