It’s not easy to replace the Mosin Nagant rifle. In fact, Soviet adoption of a semi-automatic rifle took several attempts before they finally landed on SVT-40, and even then the new platform wasn’t chosen to take over sniper rifle duties.
An estimated 1.6 million were produced between 1940 and the end of World War 2. Despite that fact, they remain surprisingly elusive here in the United States.
From the mind of F.V. Tokarev, with their combination wood/metal slotted forends, box magazines, slim profile, and powerful chambering, these World War 2 workhorses remain as collectible as they were effective.
