Rollin White’s Self-Cocking Sharps

One of the rarest Sharps rifles in existence looks mysteriously like a run-of-the-mill U.S. Navy Model 1855 Sharps breechloader. However, the example RIAC Lead Historian Seth Isaacson shows us today is the only example of the Rollin White patent self-cocking mechanism that still functions. If you want to see it in action, this may be your only chance!

50 were initially created, with 38 destroyed in the U.S. Navy testing, and others were deactivated and converted back to regular rifles. It is supremely rare and somehow remains in astonishing condition.
