British Big Bores with Royal Connections

Two beautiful British big bore pistols are enough to get anybody excited, but when you attach them to two princes, collectors’ eyebrows begin to rise.

The first of the double-barrel pistols in this video was owned by Prince Frederick, the Duke of York. His reformation of the British army contributed in no small way to the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo. A gorgeous over-under, it possesses several fascinating design features.

The second was presented by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to Captain R.H. Grant, a quartermaster general of the Prince’s camp during his 18754-76 visit of India. It is the 14th of just 20 pistols presented by the Prince during this tour. An appropriate gift for someone in India, this handsome howdah pistol remains in spectacular condition.
