Accuracy International has a great origin story and quickly rose to the top of their craft in creating rugged, precise rifles. First taking hold with the British special forces, it quickly spread, perhaps most notably to Sweden, whose upgrade quickly became known as the Arctic Warfare (AW).
Some years later, 1998 to be exact, the German Bundeswehr joined the ranks of those militaries using Accuracy International’s AW design. However, the Bundewehr began using the AWM-F. ‘M’ stands for magnum chamberings, .300 Win Mag or .338 Lapua, and F for a folding stock.
Germany elected to use the 300 Win Mag chambering (7.62x67mm) and was the first to utilize the folding stock. Those selections made, it have birth to their G22 rifle, the Scharfschützengewehr 22.
When production began for the Bundeswehr, 10 rifles were also made for the American commercial market. This is one of those rifles. Serial number 20007, it is an absolute moon rock of rarity to see here in the U.S. and a true privilege to bring to auction.
