The Metcalf Device

Patented in 1875 when almost any capacity increasing firearm innovation was welcomed, the Metcalf device was introduced by Lieutenant Henry Metcalf. Only about 1,100 devices were made for the Model 1870 and 1873 Springfield rifle. Finding a rifle that still has the Metcalf hardware is rare today, but ones still equipped with their extremely fragile wooden box mount are exceptionally scarce. We have the pleasure of presenting to you a grouping of Springfield rifles fitted with the Metcalf device. Watch the video to learn more about the simple and historic invention.
