Holland Project – Part 4 -Torpedoes and clean-up
This is the fourth and final part of my Holland submarine animation project. This build incorporates the previous models, with some corrections and updates. The torpedo loading and firing sequences use better quality original drawings, showing, in particular, the interlock that prevented the firing lever being operated until the bow cap was fully open – a vital safety feature.
There are still some assumptions necessary where adequate drawings or documentary evidence are missing, but these assumptions, I believe, follow good submarine and engineering practice.

Your comments are welcome, particularly if they can provide contemporary evidence, and I shall update these notes to point out any errors in my assumptions.
The animation was made using Cinema 4D, Apple Quicktime and iMovie.
My thanks to the Library staff of the National Museum of the Royal Navy for giving me access to their drawings of the Holland Submarine.

Hi, I’m Rob, otherwise known as VBBSMYT.
I create the animations on my iMac using Cinema 4D, which I find very intuitive, and allows me to add smoke and flames, and then send the model to my trusty Render farm.
I make my models as accurate as possible through reference books and particularly good drawings. You may have seen my animations of early torpedoes and machine guns on YouTube. I enjoy finding out how things work and it has been fascinating to track the development from the late Victorian period up to World War 1.
