The FNC was developed by FN Herstal in the late 70’s to compete with the M16’s dominance in the 5.56×45 rifle category. While FN was famous for its FN FAL, it was clear that the NATO battle rifle’s era was ending and the FN CAL (the FNC’s predecessor) was clearly not a good solution.
While the FNC was certainly not nearly as influential as the M16, many firearm enthusiasts have come to know it as Detective Hanna’s (Al Pacino) rifle in the film HEAT and its famous shootout scene.
The FNC was notably adopted by countries such as Belgium, Sweden (as the AK5) and Indonesia (as the Pindad SS1), but still was not a major competitor to the M16 series of rifles. Of these countries, Sweden did the most to modernize the FNC under the AK5C program, but still did not match many capabilities that the modern M16/AR15 family and its massive aftermarket sector developed.
The FNC is now a major collector’s piece in the U.S.

The hosts Henry and Josh started shooting from humble backgrounds, and families that had no foundation in the shooting sports or firearms. Through their journey in shooting sports, they have both developed extremely different backgrounds that compliment each other with perspectives in historical firearms development, employment, rifle performance, munitions development, firearms manipulation, and publications.
The show aims to create a comprehensive brief of information that helps researchers, consumers, government entities and enthusiasts in their quest for beneficial information, no matter what answers they seek.
