The £100 Sword from Lloyd’s of London

Very few of these sumptuously embellished presentation swords exist in private hands, especially outside the UK. Made in three grades by London swordsmith Richard Teed, the £100 swords were reserved for captains, and positively awash in artistry.

This particular sword was presented by Lloyd’s Patriotic Fund and presented to Captain Robert Redmill of the HMS Polyphemus for his meritorious service at the Battle of Trafalgar. It is one of just 175 swords awarded before the practice ended in 1809, and one of only 30 were made at the £100 level.

These swords are housed in such prestigious institutions as the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Royal Armouries, and the Royal Museums Greenwich.
