Lt. Silas Bent was an extremely close friend of Samuel Colt, even standing as Best Man in Colt’s wedding. Colt, known for his gifts, would of course save the best for his dear friend. This is a extremely rare, cased, triple set of percussion revolvers that includes a Navy, a Model 1849 Pocket, and a Model 1855 Sidehammer.
Lt. Bent’s life is impressive on its own. A Navy officer, he started his career at the age of 19. He served as an adviser, as a lieutenant to Commodore Perry, and even worked to secure 18 POWs from Japan after extremely intense negotiations. Bent made many trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific voyages.
Discovered in the 1930s in St. Louis, this triple cased set has since been numerous iconic collections and appeared in several prominent publications.
