Gold medals in Paris are popular during the 2024 games, but this wonderful Purdey double rifle was winning its own far earlier.
A British classic, with wonderful and distinctly un-British engraving, this Purdey underlever was part of the award winning display (a gold medal) at the 1878 Exposition Universelle in Paris, and was also displayed at the Sydney International Exhibition the following year.
It is likely the only example from the famed exposition not currently housed in the Royal Gunroom at Sandringham House.
