Hino-Komuro pistols are a fascinating blow-forward pistol design by Japanese firearms designer and Imperial Army Lieutenant Kumazo Hino. The pistols were financed by civilian Tomojiro Komuro and made at the Komuro Gun Factory from 1904-1912. At most, only 500 of these pistols were produced, and many were later destroyed, leaving very few on the collector’s market today.
Their blow-forward design is unusual and was not Hino’s only one. He also designed a semi-automatic rifle several years earlier, developed several successful aircraft, and even helped found the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service. This scarce pistol is a vestige of a brilliant Japanese inventor.
