Alexander Majors was one of the co-founders of the Pony Express, but his name was known far and wide before then. A shipping magnate, he was famous for riding in the front wagon (in his earlier years), was often the first to respond to hostilities against his wagons, and for issuing all his employees a Bible.
The Pony Express was short lived, but quickly became imbued with the American West. It challenged what could be done, pitted man against the untamed frontier, and fanned America’s spark for adventure. It required courageous young men, fast horses, and the drive to conquer the unconquerable.
The shotgun belonging to Majors was not only appropriately luxurious for a millionaire, it was also very apropos for a man who made his living by stagecoaches and the shotgun messengers who guarded them.
